Following the resignation of David Cameron as the prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May has been elected as the new British prime Minister making her the second woman in history to have achieved such fit only second to Margaret Thatcher.
May (59) was a very strong proponent of the "leave" section of the Brexit referendum that eventually went on to win and make the United Kingdom to exit the European Union early last month. This had led to the resignation of the Former prime Minister, David Cameron.
Cameron had earlier resigned his post but officially left the post on Wednesday 13th July 2016 the same day that Theresa may took over as the new prime minister. Theresa May was the former Home Secretary.She was selected unopposed by Conservative MPs to be their new party leader. She is the current MP for Maidenhead.
In spite of the widespread criticism of the UK decision to exit the European Union and calls ro a repeat of the process, May did not show any sign of backing down as she rather made more solemn, her resolves to see to the success of the whole process.
Speaking to the media after moving into her official residence as the new British Prime Minister at no. 10 Downing street on Wednesday, May said she will "fight burning injustice and build a better Britain".
“If you’re from an ordinary working
class family, life is much less secure than many people in Westminster
realise. The government I lead will be driven not by the interests of
the privileged few, but by you,” she said.
May said that following the Brexit referendum, Britain would face a time of great national change.
“As we leave the European Union, we will
forge a bold new, positive role for ourselves. Together we will build a
better Britain,” she said.

After her swift take over of power as the New United Kingdom prime minister, Theresa May also made key appointments as she seeks to start delivery on her promises without any delays. Her newly appointed key Cabinet members includes:
- Boris Johnson who was the former mayor of London as the Foreign Secretary.
- Philip Hammond who was the former foreign minister has been appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
- David Davis is British secretary of state. This is a completely new role in the British cabinet.
- Michael Fallon remains as UK defense secretary.
- Amber Rudd is the new UK home secretary, the post just vacated by Theresa May.
- Liam Fox as the new UK secretary of international trade.
