Tim Duncan is the greatest ever forward in the game of basketball 's 19 year career at San Antonio Spurs saw both club and player break several NBA records while setting new ones in the process.
Duncan announced his retirement from the NBA on Monday ending weeks of speculation about his future. He had an option to extend the two-year contract he signed last summer for $5.6 million.
Duncan who was drafted by San Antonio in the 1997 NBA draft, has maintained his position in the draft throughout his career. During his 19 years career, the team never missed the playoffs, always finishing with a record above 600.
Duncan is the only player to record over 1000 wins with a single NBA team, and the 3rd player in history to reach the milestone. He is the second player in history to record at least 26,000 points, 15,000 rebounds and 3,000 blocks in his career, following the legendary Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
Duncan won five NBA titles, 2 MVPs, 3 Finals MVPs, 15 All-Star games and the best 19-year run in NBA history with a regular season record of 1,072-438.
He retired as the Spurs' all-time leader in points (26,496), rebounds (15,091), blocked shots (3,020), minutes played (47,368) and games played (1,392) and he ranks third in assists with 4,225.
His last game for the Spurs will be the loss to OKC Thunders in the NBA playoffs sixth round and his retirement has drawn a lot of reactions from the lovers of basketball whose near two decade love with the 40 year old has come to an end.
He is surely retiring as one of the greatest players to have graced the court. Duncan's retirement is big loss to spurs and the NBA in general with the association loosing one of the greatest talents that it has seen.
