TOP 100 World Richest Athletes 2016 : Forbes List

World richest athlete 2016
Real Madrid and Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo of  Real Madrid and Barcelona striker Lionel Messi has topped the Forbes magazine list of the 100 world highest-paid athletes 2016 in the recently released list. The list which sees Tiger Woods who has topped the list 12 times dropping to no. 12 and Boxer Floyd Mayweather dropping to 16th.

It may interest you to know that this is the first time a team player is topping the list in about 20years and the very first time a soccer player is heading the world athletes with riches; so its BRAVO  to Cristiano Ronaldo as football rules the world.

The Forbes list of world richest richest athletes is an annual list of total revenues earned by top athletes across all the sports in the world. It is calculated from their salaries, winnings and endorsements and does not take care of taxes and agent fees.

Surprisingly, despite the outstanding performances of the female athletes around the world, no female at athlete made the top 10 highest paid athletes in the world. Could it mean that sponsors are  shying away from endorsing our top female athletes; well that is a question that will take maybe another century to be answered.

Real Madrid and Portugal forward, Ronaldo topped the list at $88 million with $56 million in salary and $32 million more from endorsements.

Barcelona and Argentine Forward is the second world richest athlete and footballer in the year 2106.
He is the current FIFA footballer of the year and is valued  at $81.4 million, with $28 million of that from sponsorship deals.

World number one Serena Williams, was the highest earning woman in the top 100 world richest athletes in Forbes list at $28.9 million, 40th overall, with the banned Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova 88th on $21.9 million as the second woman on the world richest athletes in 2016. Too bad for the women in sports, isn't it.
