Portugal celebrates winning the Euro 2016 over France

The Portuguese male national team has shocked the European Football community by winning the Euro 2016 finals against the host nation France in their own Backyard.

Portugal has gone all the way against all possible odds to win the coveted trophy having qualified from their group as the best losers against even such less fancied teams like Iceland. The team went on to qualify for the semifinals without winning any game within 90 minutes.

In the semi finals, they team met the world champions in Germany and what a shock it became as they defeated Germany by 2 unreplied goals making it their first win  in 90 minutes since the competition started. An Eder goal was enough for them to beat France in the Finals.

In a thrilling Final against the host nation France, the Portuguese team had started on the back foot with the teams having to fall back to defend in the first 25 minutes of the game. The French side had started the brighter side with Sissoko particularly causing the opposition team a lot of worries.

Portugal then had their work seemingly increased with their talismanic captain, Criastiano Ronaldo was stretchered out of the field having sustained an injury. He was replaced on the pitch by Ricardo Quaresma.

Contrastingly, Portugal sprang up to life after Ronaldo left the pitch as the team started getting their fair share of the possession with France having to defend a couple of times.

Both teams came into the second half in good spirits and had a couple of chances that were not converted. France came close a couple of times with the portugal team Rui Patricio making some crucial saves. Gignac hit the post just before the whistle went for the end of regulation time.

In the second half of extra time though, particulary in the 109 minute of play, substitute Eder got what proved to be the winning goal as Portugal set a new tournament record. Portugal won only two matches within 90 minutes and lifted the the trophy. An it means that France has lost another major Finals after the 2006 World cup finals.

In my view, i would say that i saw it coming as the tournament had proved to be filled with such surprise victories. I tagged Euro 2016 a the "the more you look, the less you see" Leave your comments below.
